Television has it's own appeal for a number of reasons. It is dramatic and sexy, and the idea of being on television conjures up images of Hollywood glamour. When reality sets in, however, it is often less attractive:

• Buffalo is the second most heavily cable-penetrated market in the country. Fragmentation is worse in Western New York than literally every other market in the country.

• Satellite TV is increasing the channel choices – AND the fragmentation.

• Quality television production is expensive, with the alternative being cheesy local looking commercials that create a similarly cheesy low quality persona for the advertiser.

• Broadcast television space is costly in demand Prime, Fringe and Access areas.

• And Broadcast Advertisers end up paying to reach customers up to 9 counties away who will never buy their products!

• Cable is much less expensive but delivers significantly lower reach than broadcast AND it is not possible to purchase local commercials on the top cable channels.
